Traditional weight training and CrossFit training should not be in conflict at all. Many CrossFit coaches are realizing what strength and conditioning coaches of other sports have known for a long time:Weightlifting (Snatch, Clean & Jerk, Press) and Powerlifting (Squat, Bench, Deadlift) movements must form the foundation of a fitness program for any athlete.
The big lifts are the most efficient way to develop high levels of neurological strength and power, which is required for all high level athletes, and this includes CrossFitters. In order to excel at the CrossFit games or just to dominate your local Box, a well planned and strategized barbell program should be the very bedrock of training. So as to the question of Traditional Weight Training vs. CrossFit, the answer is simple: BOTH.
