The first step to success in training (or any endeavor) is to know exactly what is your purpose for doing it. What do you personally want out of it? First nail that down in your mind.
Second, draft up a plan to achieve your purpose. The plan must be well thought out and based on sound logic, your mind can be confident enough in it to give full effort.
Thirdly, you must disciplined every step of the way to follow the plan through to your goal. If you have a meaningful purpose, a solid plan, and a rock-solid discipline to apply to them, motivation will be strong and consistent.
